Yahoo Hires Six-Months Pregnant Former Google Exec
Yahoo has hired a six-months pregnant woman who was one of Google’s first employees to be its fifth CEO in five years. Marissa Mayer will attempt to engineer a turnaround at the web giant as it struggles to rebound from financial malaise and internal turmoil.
The new Yahoo boss, who starts her job on Tuesday, was Google employee number 20 and was most recently responsible for its mapping services. Her new job was not the only piece of good news Ms Mayer announced on Monday – the 37-year-old also revealed that she is pregnant, and is expecting her first child in October.
Ms Mayer began her career at Google in 1999 after getting her master’s degree in computer science from Stanford, the college which Google’s co-founders attended. Ross Levinsohn has been running the company on an interim basis and was thought to be the leading candidate after Hulu CEO Jason Kilar dropped out from consideration.
