NBA 2K13 With Kinect Voice Features Release Date

NBA 2K13 release date is October 2nd and new features related to the game are being revealed ahead of the big launch. The latest involves the ability to do vocal play calls using the Xbox Kinect.

The newest NBA 2K title (pictured at left) is already on pre-order with an expected ship date of October 2, 2012. The popular pro basketball title will be released on PS3, Sony PSP, PC, Nintendo Wii and the Xbox 360. The Xbox version of the game appears like it may trump the others with a new features. Just recently, the ability for gamers to use their voice to run plays during their games was demonstrated, and seems like a rather unique feature for the game.

In the YouTube video below, Rob Jones, the Senior Producer for the 2K Sports game, talks about the use of the Kinect technology. In the video, he calls for Kobe Bryant to get off the bench and into the game in the 4th quarter. Kobe stands up and begins to walk over to the scorer’s table, ash the game is in progress. Jones also shows various play calling, including pick and roll, and 3-2 zone offensive schemes.

If all that isn’t cool enough, you also have the option to say “Gatorade” to dump a bucket of Gatorade on the coach. That feature might only be available for when a team is about to win a big game, not necessarily all the time, but certainly adds to the realism of the game. One has to wonder how long it will be before you can talk trash to the refs and earn a technical for doing it with your own voice. Then again, maybe “argue call” or “argue non-call” is a built-in feature.

Based on the trailers and info so far, it looks like there is plenty of fun to be had in the NBA 2K13 title, as players can have an exciting All-Star weekend complete with dunk contest and 3-point shootout featuring current stars and past greats. It looks like it’s going to be a winning title for 2K Sports, especially if the Microsoft Xbox Kinect technology catches on, because it could lead to even more interactive sports games in the future.
